Summary Secret Hitler is the sinister hidden role game of political duplicity Three roles: liberty-loving Liberals, totalitarian Fascists, & Hitler Hidden teams forces Liberals to figure outwhom to trust New powers, including assassination, unlock as rounds progress Acts as a demonstration of how democratic institutions fail Secret Hitler Board Game DescriptionThe future belongs to whoever wins Secret Hitler, the hidden role board game that blends trust, acting and political calculation to give players the chance to rewrite history! The Secret Hitler game takes as its inspiration the tumultuous end of the Weimar Republic, the fledgling democracy that was overthrown by the Nazi Party with the 1934 Enabling Act that gave Hitler dictatorial power. Secret Hitler is a hidden role game: rather than pick which team to play on, every player is randomly assigned one of three roles at the beginning of the game, depending on how many people are playing. Liberals must preserve the democratic state, while the Fascists work to overthrow it. There's one last role you can play. One player in every game is the titular secret Hitler who must figure out who's a Liberal enemy and who are their Fascist friends and seize control. Like the best board games, the rules are simple to play but allow for limitless strategic play: At the start of every turn all players select a Chancellor, who proposes three laws to pass, and the other players vote on whether to pass or oppose the law. There are two types of laws, Liberal and Fascist. The Liberals win if five Liberal laws are passed, and the Fascists win if six Fascist policies are passed. Passing laws might sound boring, but Secret Hitler is anything but. The stakes of each law are high, as with every new Fascist policy that is passed new gameplay elements come into effect, representing the crumbling democratic state. For example, after three Fascist policies have been passed, the Chancellor can nominate another player to be executed. If that player is Hitler, the Liberals win the game! But the Fascists can work these new laws to their own advantage. If the Secret Hitler is elected after the same number of Fascist policies are passed, they seize control of the government, and the Fascists claim victory. With its focus on duplicity, shifting loyalties and the gradual erosion of democratic norms and institutions, the Secret Hitler game is as much a warning from history as it is a fun and challenging game for friends. With its lack of direct violent content, this board game would be suitable as an educational game for students studying the rise of the Third Riech.
